Yoz my fren...i m back wif another update of myself...for this week, i have been busy attending a SCUBA course which is part of the school's student development programme..the course was carried out by a company called Leeway...well...this course i would say is rather fun..but before we have the fun part, we have to go thru a one day theory lesson..so basically the instructor teaches us things such as health issue(decompression sickness, nitrogen nacorsis and some other which i have forget) and how to avoid them, basic equipments needed, a bit of physic of underwater, sharing with us their diving experience such as seeing all sorts of corals, reefs, fish and even sharks and many many more things. the lesson was on monday..tuesday was a free day for me...wednesday was the day i first touch, see, wear and experience and scuba equipment..we had some training in the Singapore Poly swimming pool...but before we have proper lesson, we first required to swim 200m in the pool in any strokes..follow by a few minutes of treading water in the pool...after which, the class of ard 18 was split into 3 groups and an instructor is attached to teach us diving..unfortunately, i was pair with a guy who does not know how to swim totally...but since it is in the swimming pool, i guess my life is still safe...
we were first introduced to the equipments..after which, parts and functions of buoyency compensator(BC in short) was introduced to us again..basically help us to achieve buoyency in the water such as float on the surface of water and hover in the middle of the water...maybe another function is to hold on our oxygen tank...we then learnt how to put our oxygen tank onto our BC...afterwhich, our regulators and pressure guage and procedures to check our equipment such as checking tank pressure and functionality of our main/backup regulators and connection to the BC's power inflator...after all the gears are fixed, we learnt how to put on our weights which was rather heavy..haha..but got used to it very fast...then mask and snorkels and fins...the instructor also demo the proper way of entering the water..when in the water, we have to perform drills such as mask clearing, retrieval of mask and regulators, ditching and donning of our BC, buddy oxygen sharing, buddy rescue, surface floating, proper breathing techniques and lastly perhaps hand signs...so learning all those took us abt a day...
thurs was a very short day as it was just taking an exam paper...friday was my first open sea dive..though is open sea, we r still going thru training and not leisure or fun...but time, level of difficulties increase greatly as water in singapore is damn dirty and milky...visibility is rather bad..it was like u put ur hand out, u may only see half of your hand and not even ur fingers...also the pressure in water is high and we have to constantly equilise it by blowing air to our ears or else a pain will be felt in the ears...we had our training at labrador park...though the water was unclear, it was still fun to be at the bottom of the sea, breathing normally with our oxygen tank and not feeling a pain to the ears...so we have a few more drills out there..basically the same as in the swimming pool but this time more realistic i guess....so basically had two dives and another skin dive which i did not really master it...
on sat, we set off from west coast pier to pulau hantu to have another session of training and of course, a leisure dive..haha...shiok! but the travelling is damn boring cos the boat was travelling very slow! anyway, when we reach there, we waste no time...we gear up and everyone get into the water soon...we have another 2 dives again..the first dive, we first repeat a few drills which we did not do well the day before, then our instructors lead us to sight-seeing corals and reefs along pulau hantu...guess quite a gd sight but still blur with wat is corals and wat is reefs..wahaha!!!!anyway underwater scenary are nice..btw this time the depth was ard 12m deep...wooo....have to equilise our ears constantly as we sinks...so basically today most of the time is enjoying a bit of scuba diving and home we go..but wondering when i can get my cert...hmm....
