2 months of recruits life in tekong has finally come to an end for me...after 12 days of rest starting today, my real NS experience will then start...it also mark the start of new hell...during this 2 months, i have see how physically weak i m...before enlistment, my hope is to get into OCS...however, i begin to doubt myself if i can make it there...firstly i am not physically fit and secondly i dun tink i have the quality to be one...guess my peer appraisal isn't that gd too as i was quiet in my platoon...
anyway some of things to share with during my bmt training...for enhanced batch, most of the things they do is imparting military knowledge to u...physically training i will say is very minimal...so it u barely pass ur NAPFA like me and u do not do anymore training thereafter and hoping to pass IPPT or survive the training, pls carry on to dream that u will pass IPPT...when i just got in, my 2.4km run timing was 13.10 mins, a worst timing i ever get in my fitness test...0 chin ups...i felt so depressed and worried then...anyway, i managed to pass these two stations well at the end of my BMT...completed 2.4km within 10.05 mins and pull 11 chin ups...i guess if i did not skip a few training, i might be able to get gold =P ...the physically training they have are strength training, 30x60, AGR, gym and maybe the 5BX u do every morning if u really wan to include it...
strength training basically have u to carry dumbbells of 4-5kg and medicine balls to work out...basically i tink it is the most waste of time type of training...totally ineffective...but VERY effective in making u tired out...for 30x60, u basically sprint for 30 secs and walk for 60 seconds..this is repeated for 6 sets...it may seems easy but after the 3rd set or so, u will tired out...that's provided u really run to the fullest during the 30 secs sprinting...this is quite a gd training for 2.4km i will say...for even for tough training, u maybe wan to do 60x120...the next activity is AGR...basically before this, u will have ur first IPPT CAT test...it is to categorise u ppl into group so that ppl under the same CAT can train together...this test is very important for those aiming for BEST COY PT and not important to normal ppl like me...so after u got ur 2.4km timing, they will split into group A,B and C..A are for ppl who can pass...B are for people who fail...C are for people who fail badly..e.g. completed it with 14mins...then during AGR, same group of ppl will form up and all will run for 15mins non stop...for those who really wan to train hard for 2.4km, try not stop at all...this can train ur stamina...another effective activity for 2.4km run...
gym i went there twice only...first time was intro and second time worked out...basically u go there and exercise at any station u wan...u r free to do any exercise...u can even choose to see ppl to exercise...so if u intend to fail IPPT, pls go in there and help ur platoon mates to wipe their sweat...next is 5BX which is useless and gd to make u wake up...it can be fun but can also be hell...if ur platoon sergeant is a sadist, he will ask u to do jumping jacks for many many counts...e.g. 50 counts of 4...if u dun shout out loud, they will increase and increase and never decrease...so guys, make sure u shout out when the commanders instruct the number of sets to be done...they will increase it too when u dun fall in in time in the morning which is 5.45am...if everything is fine, basically u just do 5 counts of 4 or 10 counts of 4 of push ups, sit ups, jumping jacks, burpees and alternate knee rise.. for u guys who wan to train for pull up, i tink the best training u can do is play with chin up bars...every level will have a chin up bar...try to go there and pull...have a buddy to help u assist u up...try to do 3 sets...maybe like 3 sets of 5...then if can, try to hang on the chin up bar without doing anything...just hang it there...it does helps too...try to hang 3 sets of 20 secs..if 20 secs is too little for u, u r encourage to hang longer...as long as u can...
shooting rifle is another criteria u have to pass to complete BMT...this is the most fun activity to me..for first few training, u will be in IMT, which a computerised range...this is where u got all ur fundamentals right before going for live rounds...try to get use and correct all the techniques...as long as u do, it's all left to aiming part which have to depends on urself..u will have 16 rounds for day and 16 rounds for night...for night shoot, the targets will be delibrate, meaning they will start there forever and let u shoot...yes it may seems easy...tink again, at total darkess, u cannot see anything except for a flashing light on the target...a tip for u guys, check ur prominent tip glows brightly at night..if not even u can see target, u also cannot aim cos u cannot see where u r aiming...
the most hell one is field camp and SIT test...for field camp, u have to walk 8km with a super heavy field pack...inside will have ur standard field packs items u packed for field camp and additional of field ration which is damn heavy...when u reach ur camp site, u will have to build ur own basha within 10mins...the height of basha is low...u cannot even sit in there...all u can do is crawl or lie in there...at there, u cannot bath for first 3 days,4th day let u bath and then no bathing again...actually cannot bath is alright but not when ur whole body is damn dirty...face filled with camo creams, body full of sweat and sand and mud if u r "lucky" enough...at night all u can do is powder bath...u must even powder bath ur head and face...u have to be in total white...and also u will be stripping till underwear only and do powder bath..if u wanna change underwear, do it in nature too...pee and shit all in nature...for shit rite, shit holes will be dug for u...pls use it and not shit anywhere u wan...u will get others into trouble...anyway when u visit the shit holes, u dun feel like shitting anymore when u smell of the millions shit smell...houseflies of green bean size flying above it...makes u damn sick...best way to save ur shit is not eat fruits or fruit bars which is in the field ration...mentioning abt field ration, some are nice but some really taste like shit...but no choice, u lan lan suck thumb still have to eat..best thing abt field camp is not much physical exercise...u will do 5Bx in the morning and go for a run and that's it for the day unless ur whole platoon very slack and the commanders in bad mood, they will make u do extra exercise such as breaking basha and get into FBO(Full Battle Order) or jumping jacks with rifle and webbing...basically they can do anything which u never thought they will...another gd thing is u can slp early..as early as 9+ u can slp till next day morning 5+...however when u slp, u make sure u secure ur own rifle tightly to u...if not they will just take it away and there goes one of ur weekend in camp doing guard duty...never leave ur rifle unattended or alone...if not, u will be alone on the island on every saturday...the most tiring thing to do in field camp in digging ur own "grave"...u have to dig a shellscape they call it of ard 2m in length, ard knee level deep and ard 0.8m width ba...dun remember the width le...as long u can fit in nicely can le..if ur ground is all rocks, u will have whole day to dig till u die...u have to dig with the webbing and damn helmet on ur head...u will feel damn hot and exhuasted...after ur hard work, u will have to slp in there for one night..so pray hard not other inserts will join u in the slp...and of cos wild boar may visit u for food too....haha...they look cute actually but not when they disturb u...after that night, the holes has be well cover...so well until no one knows u r here before...oh ya i forget to mention something...no torch r to be use at night...how to find things? pray for moonlight and use sense of touch lo...or use touch light tactically..meaning make sure no one knows u using it...
